Our real bride Meg married in the land of smiles wearing EMILY by Maggie Sottero
Some of you may know that I used to live and work in Thailand and this country has a special place in my heart. When I found out Meg was set to get married there I was so interested to find out where she was getting married and what she would chose to wear for such a glorious location.
Meg and Dan married 17 of August at Loyfa Resort on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand. They’ve been together for 15 years and he proposed to her seven years ago on Writers Bridge at Latitude Festival.
We asked Meg to share some thoughts from her day and wedding planning experience…..
Why did you choose Thailand for your wedding?
Thailand was our first holiday as a family together and have been going back there for the past 6 years. A cultural paradise that we all have fallen in love with and with myself being part Thai it was important for me to show our children their ancestry. It was obvious to us that this is where our next journey should be.
We wanted every part of our wedding to mean something to us, a strong foundation of everything that we are. The location was the first place we took our children when on holiday there, the date was the first day that we met. The simple laid back style from flowers to the rugs represented us as a couple (easy going and grateful for all we have). The flowers, table decor, my bouquet, the groom and groomsmen button holes were all hand made by myself. Another little piece of us.
How did you find wedding dress shopping?
Shopping for my dress was made extremely easy by you all, I dreaded going through dress after dress, shop after shop.
Brides by Solo was my first shop that I had tried, I felt so relaxed and comfortable that all that worry went away. Your assistant made my shopping for something that so many woman loose sleep over the easiest decision I had made, and through all the wedding decisions that was to come. Your beautiful shop was the first and only shop that I went to and I think that speaks volumes in itsself.
I arrived on the day of my appointment thinking I knew what I wanted in a dress but I ended up with a dress I never thought would compliment my body type. The assistant knew what I needed and advised accordingly with my wedding destination etc and brought me the perfect dress. From that moment I could think of nothing else but that dress and I knew it was the one.
What were your wedding highlights from the day?
The entire day was incredible, with so many guest travelling so far for our day, this was extremely special. We have still not got over how many amazing people we have surrounding us in our lives. I think that would be the biggest highlight for us, having them all there. Also having my father come all the way from South Africa (having only ever travelled once to the UK), walking me down the aisle and having the privilege of him performing our ceremony. A moment I will never let go of.
Any advice for other brides planning their wedding?
My advice for other brides to be, regardless of the destination would be go with your heart, not any one else’s idea of what your day should be or how it should look. And most importantly do not focus on the little things that might not go as planned, enjoy every second. That advice was giving to me and I am glad to be able to pass it on.
Thank you once again to you and your incredible team, I will forever be grateful.
